The LaSalette Crucifix

September 19, 1846 in southeastern France-

In the village of La Salette in the Rhône-Alpes, the Blessed Virgin appears to two boys grazing their cows.  Their names are Massimino Giraud (age 11) and Melania Calvat (age 14).  The Holy Lady is in tears, sitting on a stone.  She is dressed like the women of that village in a dress that goes down to her feet, a shawl, a cap on her head, and an apron tied around her waist.  The cap, the edge of the shawl and the feet are adorned with garlands of roses.  A heavy chain is visible next to the roses of the shawl, while in the chest these is a crucifix with a pair of Pincers and a Hammer on the sides.  The Lady is surrounded by a light, emanating from the crucifix worn around her neck.

The Hammer symbolized the sinner who nails Jesus to the cross with his sins.

The Pincers symbolize the Christians who try to remove the nails of the cross through a life of holiness and fidelity to the Lord.

The Skull and Crossbones represent death, which is inevitable for men, to remind them of the urgency of salvation.

The La Salette Crucifix is available in 2 different sizes.

Medium - 4 inches tall

Large - 5 1/2 inches tall

All are silver toned with black enamel.

Made in Italy
